SMALL CHURCH CONFERENCE 2008

I have mentioned in previous posts the possibility of having a conference specifically geared to small church pastors, staff, and laypersons. Many of you have been very encouraging about the possibility of such a conference. It is my desire to host a small church conference that will be very practical to those in small churches. Scholarships will be available to attendees who meet certain hardship requirements. I am still working out those details but I will advise later. Also, the conference should be affordable. That's why the registration fee will be only $50.00. Registration will open in the near future.

I have put together a potential conference schedule for your review. The following are the particulars:

Conference dates: March 27-29, 2008.

Location: Lewisville Baptist Church, Lewisville, NC

Les, my Brother,

Your conference lay-out looks very good--and fairly comprehensive!
Frankly, after having taught as long as I did, I don't know enough small church pastors at this point to be able to make knowledgeable recommendations. But, if you end up needing someone, I'll make myself available as a "bat out of the dugout" (pinch hitter). In that regard, since I had the wonderful opportunity to do the last non-sermon presentation at the BCHS in Arlington last April, if you decide you want me to speak, I would like to throw my name in the hat to do your final session (XII, I think).

For whatever it's worth,
Boyd

Hi Les,

As for a speaker for the children's ministry portion of your conference, you might try contacting Karl Bastian of www.kidology.org. See if he would be willing to put the word out to his subscribers who live in your area. Tony Kummer, a SBC blogger, is another resource who might have some ideas. His blog is at www.ministry-to-children.com. I am glad to see a small church conference out there. It is much needed since the vast majority of conferences seem to be geared toward larger than average churches.

Blessings,

Glen Woods

I attended a Small Church Pastors Conference sponsored by a group called Rural Home Missionary Association, on the web at www.rhma.org. It was held in Lancaster, PA in May 2007 and was a real encouragement to me - I have had thoughts of doing a similar thing in Virginia. RHMA might be a good resource for help.
